History

West Valley Hospital, formerly Dallas Hospital, began in 1907 at the corner of Church St. and Academy St. The hospital moved to Oak St. in 1909.

In 1914, a hospital structure was built in the present Uglow St. parking lot. The cost of construction was about $13,000 and was financed by the sale of stock and a $5,000 loan.

Dallas hospital was purchased by Tony Branson and a silent partner in 1964 and was then sold to a succession of for-profit hospital companies beginning with Setco NW, a California-based company, in 1971.

The present hospital was built by Setco in 1972 and was named Polk Community Hospital. Setco then sold the hospital to Hyatt Medical Enterprises.

In 1981, Hyatt sold the hospital to American Medical International and the name was changed to Valley Community Hospital shortly thereafter. Two years later the hospital was sold to Nu-Med Medical Inc.

In 1994, the hospital was purchased from Nu-Med by a non-profit corporation formed with funds borrowed from Salem Hospital.

In 1999, Valley Community Hospital was sold to Salem Hospital and was then leased back by Valley Community Hospital.

In 2000 Salem Hospital invested about $2.5 million in a building remodel and addition and assumed operational control.

In July of 2002, Valley Community Hospital became West Valley Hospital, a part of Pacific Health Horizons (now called Salem Health), the parent company of Salem Hospital.
